Q. What is the best cleaner to use on limestone floors? The floors in my bathroom are starting to look very dirty, with grayish marks and spots all over.
A. It sounds like your floors have been etched -- probably by using an acid based cleaner. Many common household cleaners are acid based. (You always want to make sure to use a neutral cleaner.)
Limestone is a calcite based stone. Etching occurs acid comes in contact with it.
I is recommended that you have a stone restoration contractor evaluate the floor and determine the best course of action. Chances are the floor will need to be polished with a marble polishing compound and may even need to be rehoned.

After your problem is resolved it is recommended that you use a stone=safe, neutral cleaner on your limestone for regular cleaning.
