How do I remove grout stains from ceramic tiles?

Q. How do I remove grout stains from ceramic tiles? Grey grout has penetrated and stained some of my ceramic wall tiles. Is it possible to draw this out? The stain is from grey grout. The tiles were sealed, but unfortunately one pack had not been sealed and became stained after I rubbed the grout residue off. This happened two or three days ago. We have tried vinegar, bleach and even sanding the tiles, but the grout has penetrated into the ceramic tile. I realize the only way would be to draw the stain out and wondered if you have any advise on how to do this. The other option is to remove the tiles, which will be a whole lot of work. So, I'm hoping to avoid that.

A. Thank you for contacting us. We are often able to help people avoid tile replacement, either by recommending DIY methods or the services of one of our PROs who specialized in stone and tile repair and restoration. Unfortunately, in this case, chances are the tiles will need to be replaced. However, you could certainly try to remove the stain using a poultice, just in case. If you decide to poultice, you can find poultice ingredients, directions for application, and a how-to video in our Stain Management App.
