Pencil marks can frequently be removed simply by erasing them with a pencil eraser. If the eraser trick does not work, then a poultice of denatured alcohol and a poultice powder will need to be applied. Apply the poultice and allow it to sit overnight. Several applications may be necessary.
TIP When marking marble with a pencil make sure to remove all the marks as soon as possible. The graphite in the pencil will penetrate deeper into the stone the longer it is there making removal very difficult.
