Q. Will the cold cause my stone to crack, or is there some way to treat it to prevent this?
A. Being natural, no two stones are going to have the exact same characteristics. That being said, freezing temperatures alone do not affect stone. What causes the problems in a freezing and thawing climate is the absorption of water into the stone. When the moisture freezes, it expands and forces the rock to break apart. Now, not having a picture or knowing which type of marble you have exactly, I cannot say 100% whether it will absorb water or not. Therefore, I can only advise you to err on the side of caution and apply a good quality impregnating sealer to the stone to keep it from absorbing moisture before it freezes.
