Color Cannot Be Removed From Slate

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

Q. The house was built in 1975, the entry and hall is the multi-color stone/slate typical of the 1970's
There are faded red, dark gray, green-gray and light gray random shapes all with 90 degree corners.

Can this floor be changed to a single gray color?

A. What you are looking for is an un-enhancer for stone. Unfortunately no such product exists at this time. The colors in the slate are naturally occurring. If you wanted to bring out these colors, you could use an enhancer, but eliminating the colors is just not possible without resorting to covering the slate with paint.

If you have not had the floor professionally stripped, cleaned, and sealed, you might consider doing so, because the original color might be distorted due to old coatings embedded with dirt and grime. Who knows, perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised with the appearance of the floor once the true, natural beauty of the slate is revealed.
