How long should it take to grind, hone and polish a granite floor?

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

It all depends on several factors. Generally, granite will take much longer to grind, hone and polish then softer materials like marble. As a rule of thumb you can plan on spending about one minute per square foot per grit. If your using a system that requires 10 steps, you will be spending about 10 minutes per square foot. This does not include prep, setup or grinding severe lippage. If you add these step you can spend as much as 15 minutes per square feet. This translates to about four square per hour or as little as 30 square feet per day. Of course this is the extreme but it needs to be considered. Please keep in mind that this time is based on 1995 technology. This industry is growing and with growth comes improved technology, which hopefully will speed things up.
