If a marble floor has been recrystallized will it be more difficult to hone?

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

It could be more difficult depending on how much the floor has been recrystallized. You might find that the floor will need to be ground with a sixty grit diamond to properly remove all the recrystallized layer. If you must hone the floor to remove the recrystallized layer first test in a small area. Heavily recrystallized marble can sometimes be softened which can make resurfacing very difficult if not impossible.

TIP If you come across a soft marble that is experiencing powdering it may be possible to consolidate the floor with a chemical called a consolidant. Check with several of the chemical companies in the resource directory for further information.
