Travertine stained with mud

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

Q. In response to your follow-up question about our travertine patio stained with mud, our patio travertine is directly on dirt. I will try a tile and natural stone cleaner as you suggested and hope for the best! Our travertine does have the wet look long after it gets wet, e.g. from the pool water, so I think we will need to get it sealed, or impregnated. So... none of those other recommendations will work? The Dawn detergent? The hydrogen peroxide? Pressure cleaning? I had read about these from other forum questions. Thanks for your help!

A. It should be pretty easy to clean. The problem will be keeping it clean. You have to be careful with the type of sealer that is used. Typically travertine doesn't need to be sealed, but there are some that do. I would suggest that once it is clean and dry that you try a small section.
