Can flamed granite be ground and honed and brought back to a polish?

It is possible, but very time consuming. In question #120 we figure it would take about 15 minutes per square feet to restore an average granite floor. In the case of flamed granite it may take this long just to grind the tile flat.

If the flamed granite is at least 3/4 of an inch, I would recommend using a terrazzo grinder or a very large machine, such as some of the larger planetary head grinders.

TIP Try using the most aggressive grit you can find for your first step. The terrazzo industry has grits as low as 16#. This will speed the process and make your job much easier.
