How To Remove a WD-40 Spot on Limestone

Q. I accidentally wiped my limestone fire surround on one side with a cloth that had WD-40. It has discolored  the limestone that is stone in color. The discolored area is a few shades darker. How can I bring it back to the lighter color it should be? Thank you.

A. A poultice can draw the WD-40 out of your limestone. Your poultice ingredients will be a good degreaser mixed with an absorbent medium, such as diatomaceous earth, poultice powder, or household flour. Be aware that the stone may absorb moisture from the poultice. This will dry out within a few hours or days, depending on the humidity level of the environment.
