How to Remove Stain on Porcelain After Slip Resistance Treatment

Q. My porcelain tiles were very slippery (dangerous) when wet and in an attempt to make my tiles slip resistant I used a product that etched the porcelain tile floor to make it more slip resistant when wet. My tile floor is certainly much more slip resistant when wet now but the byproduct is I have several tiles that have been stained with 5 or 6 droplet type stains, that I cannot remove. The anti slip product contains Hydrofluoric acid 40g/ liter and the manufacturer stated that they are product droplets that may have laid on the floor without without being mopped with water resulting in staining the tiles. Is there anything that can take those stains out and return my tiles to their original state?

 

 

A. Thanks for contacting us with your question. As you stated, the slip-resistance products etched the surface. The pores are opened up and the surface will now stain more easily. You can call a PRO to have the porcelain repolished, however it will become slippery again. You could ask the PRO to spot polish the problematic areas only. Another option is applying a poultice to remove the stain. Your poultice ingredients will be 20 volume peroxide, which can be found in beauty supply stores, and a dry ingredient such as poultice powder, diatomaceous earth, or flour.
