The Best Time of Year to Clean an Old Stone Building

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

When you should clean an old stone building will depend on which climate your building is located in. If located in the northern hemisphere never schedule cleaning during the winter months, since freezing temperatures can cause the stone to spall. The best times are in late spring or early fall.

If your building is located in a semi-tropical or tropical climate never schedule cleaning during the hottest summer months. The heat will cause the cleaning chemicals to evaporate too rapidly. Best time for scheduling would be winter, spring or late fall.

TIP: When working with any historical building it is best to contact an Architectural Conservator or Restoration Architect.
