My marble contractor tells me my floor may have “v-edges” when he gets done polishing it. What is a v-edge?

V-edge is a term used by professional stone refinishes to describe the shiny edge that may remain after polishing. V-edges result from uneven tiles. When the tile is polished, the polishing pad can not reach the lower edge of the uneven tile, and that lower edge may have a different shine then the remaining tile. It is common for this lower edge to be at the corner of the tile forming a “v”—hence the term.

TIP A competent contractor can blend these v-edges so they are not noticeable. I would have doubts if the contractor tells you that he will get v edges.
